Waking Persephone Festival

Learning is a HUGE part of Waking Persephone.  We strongly believe the more you learn, the more your dance advances forward - and we are all about approaching dance as a whole.  That means not only learning new moves, but improving your daily practice and technique,  developing stagecraft elements such as persona, make-up, costuming and stage geometry, exploring spiritual and ritual concepts, delving into history, culture, and social issues, and finding your own voice/style. Everything that makes a great dancer, regardless of style!

Another thing we believe in is promoting both new and established faces in the genres of dark, gothic, steampunk, experimental, theatrical, and ritual dances.  Students are able to not only study with well-known instructors/performers, but also rising stars that you WILL be hearing about in the larger circuit in the years to come! In fact, many of our "new" teachers have gone on to be hired at much larger festivals post their WP experience, and we couldn't be prouder.

We also provide an outlet for professionals to explore topics that they personally have been wanting to delve into, but the larger circuit perhaps isn't so interested in.  It's hard to get out of the box that perhaps made your name - as that's what people expect, but you feel there's more to share.  That's what we're about - giving everyone a chance to explore the dark and the unusual, in a supportive environment.
